Pulp Heroes of the True North (Their Secret History Revealed) J.P.Kanski (Pulpheroes of the True North - Copyright 2000. Dark Pines is owned and produced by J.P.Kanski.) Let us be emphatic about this , there were no Canadian Pulp Magazines published during the golden age of the bloody pulps. This does not mean there were no Canadian based pulp heroes, just that being typically Canadian, they were quieter and less publicized than their American counterparts (relatives) . This can now be rectified in the e-pages of Dark Pines. Over time Dark Pines will reveal the backgrounds, origins, and adventures of some of these remarkable and unhearalded heroes. Nor will we be simply recounting dimly remembered glories of the past. The heroes and their descendents are still with us quietly battling the evils that threaten the social fabric of Canada , not to mention the fabric of reality as we perceive it ! As with many of the well known pulp heroes, it will be revealed that those Canadian Guardians of a Just Society (CGJS) are part of the The Wold Newton Universe . Some startling facts about the nature of the WNU will also be revealed, which will help explain why these individuals have remained so well hidden. Keep in mind that during the war years distorted reports of some of of these individuals were presented as comics to build the moral of the populus. The most famous of these were Johnny Canuck and Nelvana of the Northern Lights . There are others who were never reported in any form, until now. Among those adventurers were The Silver Shadow. For a brief reference to this individual check out Giant carnivorous plants ( A walk in the Elliot Lake woods ) ,which is part of the Elliot Lake Hoodoo Page . During the war years the official government designation for these individuals was The North Star Battalion. Since it was believed by government officials that Gifted Anomalies could be more effective as secret service opperatves the NSB were never publically recognized. This also made it easier to limit any financial compensation or work benefits that the government would be required to provide the various operatives. |
